The Eritrean Refugee Centre connects Eritrean refugees to 1:1 support with volunteers, online resources and events to assist them with broad-ranging concerns, from emergency to routine, as well as study and career guidance.

Our goal is to improve Eritrean refugees' social conditions by providing general assistance and professional development opportunities to ensure they can better determine their future. Drawing on a wide pool of experience and expertise, our intention is not to replace existing services but to create a volunteer network which connects Eritrean refugees to the right services and provides them with the support that they deserve.

HOW CAN YOU GET HELP?

We focus on: Broad-ranging concerns (such as emergencies, deportations, detention, problems with authorities, assisting with paperwork, as well as any other unforeseen circumstances) and Study and Career Guidance.

Online resources

We publish lists of organisations, services and opportunities that Eritrean refugees can benefit from in all areas of life. We also provide information guides on relevant issues to give them practical and useful advice, including CV guides, advice on writing applications for scholarships and other opportunities.

1:1 Support

We connect Eritrean refugees to volunteers who assist them with any of the broad ranging concerns listed above. If they are interested in receiving study and career guidance, the volunteers offer a range of services such as resume advice, career chats, university applications guidance, finding relevant opportunities, as well as matching them with potential mentors in their preferred field.

HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?

Volunteer

Whoever you are, whatever your skills, you can share your passion to help Eritrean refugees by volunteering at our Refugee Centre. Our various volunteer roles include opportunities ranging from translation services to refugee caseworkers to study and career guidance. As an ERC volunteer, you can work from anywhere in the world with a minimum commitment of 5-10 hours per week.

Mentor

As a mentor, you can share your expertise and wisdom to assist Eritrean refugees in navigating the industries you have experience from and they are interested in. This is not a formal mentorship, instead, we hope to build a community of people we can connect Eritrean refugees to for one off meetings or potentially long-lasting relationships.

Partner

By partnering with the centre you can help create opportunities to engage Eritrean refugees in a meaningful way. We can partner in many ways, such as joint projects, hosting information sessions, organise awareness campaigns, offering services to our clients, organising webinars, skills-building sessions, etc. Get in touch and let's get planning!

THE TEAM

Our volunteers and programmes are coordinated by our team.

Reach out to them if you have any questions!

WHY DID WE START THE ERC?

With a prevailing decentralised response to the needs of Eritrean refugees, our hope is to establish a centralised space in which comprehensive assistance, ranging from general to urgent support, can be offered to Eritrean refugees.

Aiding both the personal and professional development of Eritrean refugees, the ERC also assists Eritreans with their study and career goals. It is our belief that this is of crucial importance to creating the space in which Eritrean refugees can reclaim their power to determine their own future.

Our hope is to help Eritrean refugees find a balance between the immediate need to work and provide financial support to their families and community and the realisation of long-term goals which can be achieved through study and professional endeavours. At the crux of our approach is the belief that study and career support provides the springboard from which Eritrean refugees can pursue a life that is meaningful and of value to them, rather than being dictated by the Eritrean regime. In essence, we believe that you produce the best kind of work when you do what you love – that is what we are here to help Eritrean refugees do.
