We are going #Purple4Ciham!
Who is Ciham?
Ciham Ali Abdu is an Eritrean-American citizen who was born in Los Angeles. When she was only 15 years old, she was imprisoned without a trial in Eritrea after attempting to flee the country after her father defected from the regime. She is currently in solitary confinement in the worst conditions a young woman could find herself in. This April, she is spending her birthday in prison for the 8th time.
Due to the lack of publicity around her case, the US government has not yet felt compelled to intervene on Ciham’s behalf.
What is the campaign?
Ciham’s favourite colour is purple. For her 23rd birthday, we are painting the world purple to raise awareness about her case and create more pressure on the US government to fight for her. The main purpose of the campaign is to get Kamala Harris, Ciham’s senator, informed and involved.
For Ciham’s 23rd birthday, we are painting the world in her favourite colour purple to remind people of her case and to pressure the US government to fight for their citizen. The main objective of the campaign is to bring Ciham’s case to the attention of her Senator Kamala Harris and engage Harris’s support in securing Ciham’s freedom.
